While much needed precipitation has been filling the proverbial rain bucket in recent days, the methods of receiving the benefit of the moisture has come with consequence.
As thunderstorms have pounded parts of the Valley over the past week, the most valuable part of storm tracking equipment in the area, the Hytop NEXRAD was damaged by a lightning strike Thursday.
Several electrical components of the recently upgrade unit were critically damaged and had to be replaced.
Crews have been working on restoring the radar over the past days and hope to have it back online by Monday or Tuesday pending no complications.
The the interim, radar from Columbus, MS, Birmingham, AL and Nashville, TN NEXRADs are providing coverage for Tennessee Valley counties.
