After the best weekend weather-wise you can expect to see in the TN Valley in August, we’ll be making a quick return to a more unsettled weather pattern for the work week. Here’s the current surface map and what’s going on:
The cold front that came through late Friday and brought us the comfortable, drier air, is now well off to our south and east.. it won’t affect our weather any more. We turn our attention to the west, where another cold front is gearing up to bring us some showers/storms late Monday and into Tuesday.
Our last cold front came all the way through, which isn’t very typical for this time of year.. usually, they get washed out as they enter the TN Valley and we stay humid as the front lingers over the area as it dies. That’s what this front will do. We’ll stay dry for the majority of Monday but as the front approaches, our winds will shift out of the west which will return some muggier air to the region.
We’ll see some showers and storms firing up Monday evening after a mainly dry day, and some of those storms could turn strong to severe. As is usually the case this time of year, the tornado threat is just about non-existent.. we’ll just watch for some gusty damaging winds and small hail. Here’s a look at our forecast model’s depiction of the timing of the rain:
