Here is the 10pm update from the National Hurricane Center on the projected path of Tropical Storm Isaac, which is currently packing sustained winds of 45mph and moving to the WNW at 18mph:
This forecast has Isaac making landfall near Mobile Bay late Tuesday of next week as a strong Cat 1 hurricane with winds up to 90mph.
Few things to keep in mind:
- This is a very long term forecast.. it’s a “best guess” as of right now. Things can change a lot.
- I wouldn’t be surprised if the forecast track shifts farther towards the west over the next several days.
- Even if this scenario verifies, the storm will lose a lot of strength before it reaches the TN Valley
My current thoughts for the TN Valley’s impacts:
Best Case Scenario – Isaac makes landfall near New Orleans or Panama City Beach and veers away from us, keeping us dry, but we will still have gusty winds mid-late week next week
Worst case scenario – Isaac makes landfall near mobile bay, and turns into a slow moving subtropical system that sits over us for a few days mid-late week next week, dumping possibly flooding rain and producing very gusty (not hurricane force) winds.
That’s all for now.. Samantha Smith will have the latest on WAAY 31 First News Morning and Merry Perry will be in for PM shift tomorrow with the latest developments!
