From Chief Meteorologist Spencer Denton

This image shows the supercell composite index indicating the greatest environment for supercells to develop over north MS where values are around 4. (Click on the image for a better view)
After doing a quick analysis of the atmosphere, it looks like the most unstable air is over north MS and northern middle TN. There is some sunshine breaking out in those areas while cloud cover is hanging over north AL. See visible satellite image below
If any storms develop, they will initiate over west TN and north MS and move east. Storms from this morning may have had some impact on the atmosphere, but I still think scatt’d shower/storms are likely this evening. Main threat will be damaging wind and a very weak tornado threat, but I’m not overly concerned. Heavy rain will be the bigger threat as we are stuck in a very moist, tropical air mass. The graphic below shows 1 to 2 inches of rain possible in the next 24 hours.
Labor Day: Expect a mostly cloudy day with passing showers or storms. It won’t be an all day rain, so don’t cancel outdoor plans. Just be prepared to head indoors until storms pass by. Highs will reach the upper 80′s to near 90. Wind southwest 5-15mph.
