A Look Back At The Snow…Looking Forward To Sun

From Chief Meteorologist Spencer Denton

Looking Back At The Snow And The Forecast

pic

The highest totals were in Cullman, Arab and Madison. Cullman and West Point received between 3 and 4 inches. Parts of Madison had 1-2 inches. NE Madison county received very little. Just goes to show you how hard it is predict for one specific community. Our forecast above wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. In general, the snowfall prediction was decent, but we missed some of the details. Cullman and Marshall county received a lot more and I think it was because they were closer to the center of the low and the low was at peak strength at that point. The higher elevations received less that we thought b/c the upper low weakened substantially as it moved over that area. We learned from this system and it will help us in the future. Below is a list of reports from the NWS in Huntsville. They did a good job with this event.

LOOKING AHEAD

No winter weather expected over the next 10 days. We will see plenty of sun this weekend as high pressure takes control with highs in the 50′s. A big arctic blast comes in Monday night and could drop us into the teens. Otherwise, our next chance of rain holds off until late next week. Have a great weekend!

I like the way you all do the weather. I think You did a good job forecasting it while the weather was bad and really all the time. I watch everyday. Mary Gross
